what is the
mix voice method?

When people say “mixed voice”, most of the time they are talking about combining their chest voice and head voice. But that’s actually not true and not giving you the results you could have. Getting into your mix involves not only combining head and chest voice but also something called your pharyngeal voice. A lot of people have never even heard of this register, let alone been trained on how to use it. While this may seem daunting, it is actually quite simple when you have the right training. Once you learn how to use your pharyngeal voice and how to combine it with chest and head voice, you’ll feel the ease you’ve always wanted. You’ll be able to get through multiple sets in a day and still have a voice. And you’ll be amazed at what your voice has always been capable of.

But don’t just take my word for it. Some of the most popular worship leaders use this same technique when they sing. Kari Jobe, Natalie Grant, Brandon Lake and countless others use mixed voice to maintain their freakish ranges, make singing 15 songs in a row look easy, and protect their vocal cords after hundreds of shows per year.

Sound too good to be true for you?
It’s not!

I have been a worship leader for fifteen years and have worked at over ten different churches and ministries along the way. One of the main things I see with other leaders is a lack of relevant training resulting in a lack of confidence, terrible fatigue, and focusing more on singing the song correctly than on leading people into the presence of Jesus. After getting a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Church Music, I had just gone through intensive vocal lessons that did change my voice, but not in the ways I desired. Classical training did not translate to the kind of worship I was leading every week and those struggles I addressed above were my reality more times than I wanted to admit.

So I started my own research and came across Sophie Joles and the Mix Voice Method. This confirmed a lot of what I had already been trying to reteach myself and I dove head first into learning all I could about mix voice. This way of singing changed worship leading for me. It made it so much less about me singing on a stage and gave me the space I needed to focus fully on what Jesus wanted to do with the set and with the people I was leading. Now when I lead worship, I can trust that my voice knows what to do. I can trust my muscle memory and I don't worry about hitting difficult notes or being able to hold a phrase out long enough... I just do it because my body knows how to.

And astoundingly, it's easy!

I want to teach you that this is possible for you as well.
